More than half a billion people worldwide suffer from chronic kidney disease (CKD). In many countries, type 2 diabetes (T2D) is one of the most common causes. Although treatments help to protect kidney function and reduce cardiovascular risks, many patients continue to develop kidney failure or die, often as a result of cardiovascular events. This has increased interest in glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists such as semaglutide. Today's study therefore specifically investigates the effect of semaglutide compared to placebo in patients with CKD and T2D.
