Randomized phase III study: Pembrolizumab in HCC patients

This Medudy course is a video tutorial for physicians on the topic of "Pembrolizumab in HCC patients". The format used here is a so-called "Journal Club Summary", in which we summarize the latest and most clinically relevant studies for you.

HCC patients are often diagnosed late with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma, when curative approaches are no longer possible. The focus of therapy has therefore increasingly been on systemic approaches. However, hepatocellular carcinoma is considered to be a tumor that is refractory to chemotherapy. Chemotherapy is also often poorly tolerated in patients with impaired liver function. In addition, the success of treatment has often been poor in patients with severe liver cirrhosis. In recent years, however, new approaches such as targeted molecular therapies and immunotherapies have been on the rise and have delivered promising initial results in studies. One of these immunotherapeutically effective substances is pembrolizumab, which has an inhibitory effect on the PD-1 receptor.

Note: All "speakers" appearing in the Medudy videos are AI-based avatars used to improve the didactics of the videos. The people on whom the avatars are based have explicitly consented to their use. All content is based on high-quality scientific sources and is created and reviewed by the Medudy medical team.

At the end of this training you will know:

  • current clinical practice in the treatment of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma
  • the potential benefits of pembrolizumab in the treatment of HCC patients
  • the potential limitations of pembrolizumab in the treatment of HCC patients
