Diagnosis of axial spondyloarthritis in patients with comorbidities

This Medudy course is a video tutorial for physicians on the topic of "Diagnosis of axial spondyloarthritis in patients with comorbidities". The format used here is a so-called "Journal Club Summary", in which we summarize the latest and most clinically relevant studies for you.

Axial spondyloarthritis is often diagnosed late, which can lead to a considerable health burden and damage to the spine. HLA-B27 is less strongly associated with axial spondyloarthritis in patients with psoriasis and inflammatory bowel disease. Therefore, the classification criteria of the Assessment of Spondyloarthritis international Society (ASAS) may be inadequate for this patient group.
The SASPIC studies were therefore designed to investigate undiagnosed back pain in patients with psoriasis, acute anterior uveitis or inflammatory bowel disease by rheumatologists with expertise in axial spondyloarthritis. The aim of the study was to determine the prevalence of axial spondyloarthritis according to extra-articular manifestations and HLA-B27 status, the clinical and imaging features and the diagnostic and classificatory significance of magnetic resonance imaging.
