With over 2 billion users in 2021, the video portal YouTube is the second most visited website after the search engine Google. Half of all YouTube users use the video platform to access educational videos. But what makes video-based learning so attractive? We show you the advantages and explain why medudy relies on video-based training.
What is video-based learning?
Video-based learning literally refers to learning experiences delivered through videos. With the ability to combine video footage, animation, graphics, text and audio, videos create a multi-sensory learning experience unlike any other e-learning format. It is therefore not surprising that video-based learning has quickly become the predominant standard for digital knowledge transfer.
Why is video-based learning so successful?
The trend towards video-based learning is not surprising. From a scientific point of view, moving images have clear advantages over other learning media. Different stimuli are addressed simultaneously through sounds, images and movements. As a result, our brain can grasp and process information from video messages 60,000 times faster than information from purely text-based media. In addition, the information is not only processed faster, but also more sustainably: Recipients can remember 95% of the information from videos, compared to only around 10% for information from a read text. It is therefore not surprising that the majority of learners prefer videos to other learning media.
